Foil Fencing for Youth Level 1

Youth are introduced to the martial art and sport of foil fencing.  Swordplay has been a martial art for centuries and is today the modern sport of fencing. Fencing is fun, mentally challenging, and great exercise for kids.  This 10-week, introductory class in foil fencing will teach kids the basic skills of fencing: safety, basic footwork, blade work, and essential rules of play for bouting.  All fencing equipment will be provided by the instructor. 

Fencing for Youth Level 2 (Must complete 1, 10-week session at Level 1 to register for this class) This class will be held concurrently with Level 1 class.

Youth are introduced to the martial art and sport of foil fencing.  Swordplay has been a martial art for centuries and is today the modern sport of fencing. Fencing is fun, mentally challenging, and great exercise for kids.  This 10-week class is designed to improve youth skills and reinforce basic skills of foil, epee or saber fencing including: low-line and circular parries, phrasing, and preparations of the blade, next level footwork and bouting strategies.

Class will be taught by Master, John Krauss (USFA/USFCA certified), from Down East School of Fencing on Verona Island and Tom Bowcock (USFA/USFCA certified).

Classes will be offered for students age 12+ in Hampden and registration for these classes is available through Down East School of Fencing directly.  FMI: contact John Krauss, 207-974-8461, desfcg@aol.com, or www.downeastfencing.net. 

Your program registration fee includes a 1 year membership in the USA Fencing Association which is required of participants for insurance liability purposes.  Membership applications will be provided by instructor at first class for completion.

5:30-6:30 PM (please arrive 10-15 minutes early to help students get suited up for class)

Program Fee Non Resident: $135.00 per session

Program Equipment/Supplies Required: Students should wear long pants (jeans, or sweat pants, no yoga pants or leggings, please). Please wear sneakers (no sandals or flip flops, please).  Participants should bring a water bottle.
